Outstanding Lapsang Souchong

Numi Tea’s Smoky Tarry Lapsang Souchong Black Tea is a premium tea, both certified organic and kosher. The only ingredient is fair trade high quality Lapsang Souchong Std. 8310. There is nothing artificial in this or in any Numi tea.

Why did I give this tea only 4 stars out of 5? Because as wonderful a tea as it is (and it IS an outstanding tea), I cannot drink it at all. The name “Smoky Tarry” says it all—it is very smoky, and very tarry, tasting to me somewhat like bacon. It was one of the most unpleasant tastes I’ve ever experienced. That said, if you like Lapsang Souchong, I don’t think you’ll find better. Or if you are adventurous and want something different, then this is it!

On the box, the manufacturer writes: “Lapsang Souchong is grown in a nature preserve located high in China’s beautiful Wu Yi Mountains, whose thick pine forests and heavy mist provide an exceptional environment for growing tea. Traditionally smoked over the embers of White Fir, this evocative honey colored organic tea has a pungent smoky aroma that opens the palate to foods. Like a sip of fine cognac, it awakens and transports the senses, enticing you to savor its depth. Drink in the intensity of Lapsang!” Well, if you’re so inclined, give it a try; it is a very fine tea of this type.

If you are new to Numi but love Lapsang Souchong tea, this will probably be the best you’ve ever had—Numi quality is incredible!
